Old Dominion Animal Health Center provides the perfect combination of daily care and socialization for dogs through our Capitol Canine Club.
Members can enjoy the freedom of playing with other dogs in a cage-free environment. Our club offers pet owners the option of doggie daycare services with the same high quality of care that is expected from Old Dominion Animal Health Center. Club members can enjoy the maximum freedom to run, play, and interact with other dogs while being closely supervised by our experienced staff.
Plus, unlike many cage-free boarding/daycare facilities, Capitol Canine Club has veterinarians immediately available to serve the health care needs of our guests should the need arise, providing that added level of safety and care for your pet.
Playtime
Dogs are divided into groups based on such criteria as their temperament, play style, and energy level. Play groups are rotated throughout the morning to ensure that play is a happy and friendly experience for all participants. During the afternoon, guests can enjoy a mid-day break and/or a leisurely nap before play groups get going again.

Capitol Canine Club is happy to provide daycare to dogs of all ages and sizes! From our energetic puppies to our older pals, we cater to the unique needs and temperaments of all dogs.
Member Evaluations
All Capitol Canine Club members must have a completed application, pass an evaluation, and provide proof of current vaccinations. Our evaluation consists of determining the comfort of the dog with staff, being handled, being kenneled, and interacting with other dogs. Dogs exhibiting aggression toward people or dogs, showing signs of guarding resources, or high levels of anxiety are not appropriate candidates for daycare.

Club Policies
- No dog with a contagious illness will be accepted for any service until cleared by a veterinarian.
- Females in season and intact adult males (over the age of 6 months) may not participate in daycare.
- Dogs with a history of altercations with other animals and humans may not participate in daycare.
- All dogs must be current on the following vaccinations and tests:
- Rabies
- Distemper
- Parvo
- Leptospirosis (Lepto)
- Bordetella
- CIV (H3N8 & H3N2)
- Negative fecal test
- All dogs must stay current on heartworm and parasite prevention.
- Doggie daycare is open Monday through Friday, except on major holidays.
- Drop-off is 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Pick-up is between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
- Pets not picked up by 7:00 pm will be boarded at regular boarding fees. Please call to make arrangements if your pet is going to be spending the night.
- Reservations are required.

Reservations are required to ensure we have space and can accommodate specific play groups best suited to your pet’s needs. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Paula was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating college, she moved to DC and spent more than two decades working in government/public relations. In 2011, she followed her heart and embarked on a second career dedicated to caring for animals and the humans who love them.
Paula joined our team just as we began investigating creation of a program that would provide clients with a different, better doggie daycare experience. To that end, ODAHC joined forces in 2012 with Carole Peeler – owner/founder of C&C PALS and one of our region’s most-acclaimed dog trainers and behaviorists – to establish what is now the Capitol Canine Club (CCC) – “Doggie Daycare Done Differently!” The CCC officially opened its doors in January 2013.
Paula is responsible for managing playgroups; conducting evaluations; handling day-to-day administration; maintaining client communications; training staff; and ensuring adherence to the ODAHC/CCC’s high standards for playgroup management practices, cleanliness, and safeguarding the health and well-being of our doggie members.
In late 2011, she began an apprenticeship with Carole Peeler and, in September 2021, passed a rigorous exam to achieve national standing as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed®. Paula teaches C&C PALS’ basic dog obedience curriculum in group classes at ODAHC and in private sessions at clients’ homes.
Every day, Paula brings her knowledge, skills, experience, and professional credentials – as well as her heart – to managing and caring for the dogs entrusted to ODAHC and CCC.
